Five Signature drinks that will kick off your Wedding with a bang!
With summer just around the corner (well sort of for us down here in NZ) Summer Weddings call for one thing…delicious, scrumptious and refreshing signature cocktails.
Here’s a bit of advice to you on why a signature cocktail is a great way to get the party started. Everyone enjoys a cocktail hour so why not make it a bit unique by adding your own signature drink to things. Plus, if you have to sneak away for photos, this will keep your guests happy!
To establish the perfect cocktail, choose creatively and customize what speaks to you and your groom—pick your favourite drink, flavour, colour and the rest will just flow! Are you more of a sweet tooth while your husband prefers sour? Then pick one of each for your guests to sample.
To keep things simple with your bartenders, don’t choose a cocktail with a lengthy recipe, this will only create a long line at the bar.
"But First, Cocktails"
Yesssss!!! You can’t really go wrong with a margarita! And who doesn’t love the fresh flavour of a cucumber? Your guests will love this unexpected combo of goodness. Serve on the rocks or blended with ice to keep guests cool all evening long.
*Ingredients (makes one pitcher)
3 cucumbers, peeled and roughly chopped
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup tequila
2 tablespoons triple sec
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
1 jalapeño, sliced*
"Pop, Fizz, Clink"
Pomegranate and prosecco make the perfect little pair for a delicious, bubbly mix. This refreshing drink will quench your thirst buds like no other.
*Ingredients (makes 2 cocktails)
1/4 cup vodka
2 tablespoons pomegranate juice
A scoop of crushed ice
1/4 cup prosecco
A squeeze of lemon
"Rose all Day"
This one does require a bit of prep work but let me tell you it’s worth it. I tasted this magical drink back in Vancouver and it was so wonderful!
Here’s the quick and easy way to do it! Pour a chilled bottle of Rose into a blender. Combine with strawberries or other frozen fruits of your choice. Toss in some ice and sugar. Blend away. Add a touch of lemon juice and serve! Voila! Garnish with whatever you have around that looks pretty.
• 1 750 ml bottle rosé ( choose a heavy, dry rosé that looks darker than the others )
• ½ cup sugar
• 8 ounces strawberries, hulled, quartered
• 2½ ounces fresh lemon juice
• 1 cup ice or as much as you see fit to make it nice a slushy.
Champagne and Fruit
"It's always a good time for champagne"
Sometimes a signature cocktail is more about the garnish than the booze.
• Raspberry Sparkler: Champagne cocktail with slices of soaked pears in glass and skewered raspberry on top.
• Lavender Infusion: Getting married in the spring? Infuse your champagne with floral lavender by adding a sprig of the purple stuff to each flute.
• Tropical Breeze: Anything with a pineapple, you know we just love!! So why not add a touch of pineapple to your champagne.
• Mimosa: When in doubt adding a splash of orange juice can transform your sparkling drink.
You can really get creative with your garnishes! Think outside the box and come up with some fun little touches.

Island Sunrise, we offered this signature drink at our wedding and I know it was a huge hit!! Our guests keep going back for more! This recipe is for about 70 drinks. What’s great about it is you can make up a big batch and serve it in a big juice dispenser or mix them individually. In a cocktail shaker, combine the rum, coconut rum, and crème de banana. Fill the shaker with ice and shake it like a Polaroid picture! Strain and pour into a tall glass. Pour in the Raspberry liquor, which will sink and colour the bottom of the drink red! Add a few ice cubes and garnish how you wish! Tropical flower even!
Spice Rum 3 liters
Coconut Rum 3 liters
Creme de banana 2 liters
Raspberry liqueur 2 liters
